Synopsis

The poorly drawn late night cable cartoon show Aqua Teen Hunger Force and its cleverly titled movie spin-off are of course far funnier than they have any right to be. Whether the show's audience even gets half the satire is part of its appeal (which is, like, on different levels, man). The Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters soundtrack consists of skits and songs from the film along with new material. And while the absence of Frylock on the album is a bit confusing, it's generally as top rate as the show itself. The Aqua Teen dudes even had the sense to hire the great and out-of-work old school hip-hop artist Schoolly D to compose a new version of their theme song. The Hold Steady song here is pretty decent, but the metal and rap tracks are the real meat, especially the (aforementioned) Schoolly D, Mastodon, Early Man, and Andrew W.K. tracks. Insane-o-Flex's "I Like Your Booty (But I'm Not Gay)" is the definition of "guilty pleasure," just like the movie itself, which is sort of about an immortal piece of exercise equipment which threatens the balance of galactic peace--"and it is up to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force to run away from it." --Mike McGonigal

CD Reviews

Great soundtrack that leaves a few questions...

"First, I love this soundtrack and the movie, but I was a little disappointed by 2 things. First, if you're even considering buying this, I'm assuming that you're a big fan of the show and have been to the official movie site to view the trailer for the ATHF movie. On that site, there is a KILLER music video with a song by Master Shake that features a great guitar solo (played by Meatwad in the video). I thought this was part of the movie and would be on this soundtrack. Well, it's part of neither, which is disapointing. Second, Andrew W.K.'s "Party, Party, Party" is on this soundtrack, but was never used in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I've been a HUGE Andrew W.K. fan ever since I Get Wet and I love this song, but why include it here if it's not in the movie. Yes, the song was used in the show during season five, but it's just odd. It makes me hope that maybe the DVD will include scenes cut from the movie. As for the rest of the soundtrack, there's some great stuff here. The movie parody open is here (this was one of the funniest and most creative ways to kick off a movie I've seen in ages), there are some massive metal tracks by Unearth and 9Lb Hammer, plus you get a great remix of the show's theme song and Mc Chris's "I Want Candy", which is great to actually hear in it's entirety after hearing it in tiny doses on the Mc Pee-Pants episode found on Aqua Teen Hunger Force - Volume One.

The soundtrack is enhanced, and it includes a video for the ATHF open that is seen in the movie.

There is a little bit of filler here and there, mainly the unfunny skits, which brought my rating down, but overall it's a must buy for fans of the show, metal fans and Andrew W.K. fans that are hungry for some of his new music."
Overall a really good listen.

"This CD is just plain addictive. Whether you're looking for a hardcore song like "Cut You Up" which combines heavy riffs with amusing lyrics, or more power techno like Party Party Party or I I Like your Booty, this CD is just great to listen to whenver you need an ATHF fix."

"This is a nice companion to the ATHF Movie with some original character links. The best tracks are definately better for the visuals like the film's opening listed on the CD as track 2 & 3. The retro refreshment song "Groovy Time For A Movie Time" by the Soda Dog Refreshment Squad, juxaposes the "evil snacks" with their "Cut You Up With A Linoleum Knife" by Mastodon. OMG, make sure u get to the theater on time for that opening! The animation and subtitles revealing the awesome lyrics is ultimately essential for the punchline of the joke. Maybe an enhanced CD with video would have worked better.

Some tracks don't need a clear set up like Shake's NUDE LOVE, M.C. CHRIS' I WANT CANDY and CARL'S THEME. Also the character links (Meatwad, Carl, Shake, etc.) are okay set ups to some of the less connected tracks.

Still, it is Aqua Teen Hunger Force and currently under $10 bucks,so I say see the movie - then pick this up - probably in that order."
