Prometheus Records presents music from the 1981 television mini-series, THE BORGIAS, directed by Brian Farnham, written by John Prebble and Kenneth Taylor, starring Adolfo Celi as Rodrigo Borgia, featuring music composed and conducted by the great Georges Delerue. The Borgias were an Italian family with Spanish origin. They were considered brilliant by their peers but also evil, ruthless and treacherous. The Borgias were patrons of the arts and they allowed the Renaissance to flourish. Their court attracted the most brilliant personalities. Unlike the mad Emperor, Caligula, who killed in insane pleasure, or Nero and his predecessors, who killed for political gain, the Borgias killed not only for pleasure and political gain, but for personal wealth. They are considered to be the first crime family, a family unique to the annals of crime, not bound together by blood ritual, but by genes. THE BORGIAS was a 10 episode mini-series chronicling the historical story of Rodrigo Borgias, a man who intends to become Pope and will let nothing stand in his path.
