Synopsis

Just because a movie is a comedy doesn't mean that the music accompanying it is a joke. No, often the opposite is true. You don't need music upstaging the actors. What if it gets more laughs? So the sequel to the Nutty Professor features an all-star cast of R&B and hip-hop stars who do the serious stuff best. The smooth R&B tracks are offset by ferocious hip-hop grooves, creating a constantly shifting scene of alternating moods. Just as sentimentality hits its peak with Case's "Missing You," things are seriously shaken up by Method Man's "Even If." Sometimes the extremes seem a but much. Do Brian McKnight fans want to share time with Sisqo (featuring Foxy Brown) and Eminem (here with Redman), and vice versa? This may be a case where hearing it all in the context of the movie would help listeners make the less-than-obvious connections. As a special enticement, the final track is a preview from the new LL Cool J album, G.O.A.T. --Rob O'Connor

CD Reviews

.... The best sountrack of the year 2000
J. Highsmith | Mitchellville, Maryland United States | 07/12/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The year of the soundtrack continues with the best soundtrack I've heard in the year 2000, "The Nutty Professor 2" soundtrack. The format of songs from this soundtrack is the same approach that was used on the previous "Nutty Professor" soundtrack: An equal mixture of hip hop and r&b songs. Many Def Jam and Def Soul artists are featured on this soundtrack: DMX, Jay Z, Case, Method Man, Redman, Sisqo & Jazz of Dru Hill, and Foxy Brown. Out of the r&b songs, Case's "Missing You" is the clear winner. This is the best Case song I've heard in a while, comparable to "Faded Pictures". Janet's "Doesn't Really Matter" and Jazz of Dru Hill's "Here With Me" both come in a close 2nd and 3rd. Out of the hip hop songs, Jay Z's "Hey Papi" is the clear winner. Timbaland has another winner on his hands with this track. Jay Z also gets an assist from Memphis Bleek and Amil to make this the best song on the soundtrack, in my opinion. Another combination, that you might not have expected has The Funk Doc Redman and D-12's finest Eminem on a Erick Sermon produced track, "Off The Wall", which is an appropriate title. This song will have you wanting to here these two rappers on more tracks together in the future. For people who can't get enough of Sisqo and his "Thong Song", Def Jam has added a version w/Foxy Brown rapping on the same original track. Whether you're a r&b or a hip hop fan you should enjoy this latest soundtrack offering. It's definitely worth your money."

THE NUTTY PROFESSOR 2 SOUNDTRACK IS THE BOMB!

"The first song I had heard off of this soundtrack was Janet Jackson's, "Doesn't Really Matter"...I fell in love with the song instantly. So I searched everywhere for it on the internet and was finally able to download it. I also had the opportunity to listen to a few of the tracks before I could finally purchase the album today (I couldn't wait for it to come out). There are sooo many good tracks on this album. My favorite is Janet's of course, but I also like DMX's "I'm Gonna Crawl", and Case's "Missing You". I finally have a version of the "Thong Song" now... I am content. This truly is a great album with some kick-a#& beats if I do say so myself. Oh, there is also a bonus track from LL Cool J's new album G.O.A.T. So if you're up for some good jams, this is definitely the album to buy! I can't wait to go see the movie!"
