Synopsis

Album Description
MightyREAL is a 15 volume CD compilation series exploring a very wild, yet musically elusive period in nightclubbing history: 1980 - 1988. This is when Disco, having recently been declared dead by disenchanted tastemakers, went underground to shop for a modern makeover. While on the down low, Disco was reworked into Dance Music. This transformation didn't happen overnight. It was an evolution enjoyed nightly by a thriving BIG ROOM dance scene of happy peppy party people - unwilling to call it quits. Middle America went home. In their place showed up Models, Hustlers, Dealers, Millionaires, Celebutants, Gay men, Eurotrash, Trannys, Fashion Victims, and the truly Groovy. Everyone met on the dance floor - and a good time was had by all. MightyREAL is this soundtrack: Disco, Danceable New Wave, Electropop, HiNRG, Eurodisco and pre-House. Here, many on CD for the first time ever, are the original, ultra rare, 12-inch hit singles that ruled the night. Fabulous used to have a sound - MightyREAl is it! Towards the end of 1983, a new British dance sound arrived on American shores. It found a receptive audience keen to the tight pop sensibility and clever harmonic hooks. The style was spirited and peppy. As the '80s charged on, funky syncopation and a touch of soul were added, further polishing the sound. The Queens' Music I, is the first volume of this second British Invasion.

CD Reviews

Very hot entry in the series of full-length 80s 12 mixes, bu

"Upping the nrg on as compared to the "morning music" volume, this edition also includes some very hot mixes remastered on CD that have rarely or never been available before. Most notable for me was the "upducky mix" of Dead or Alive's "brand new lover." Completists have found the 9 minute remix on other compilations, but this flip side to the original 12" never finds its way to CD. However, it should be noted that it fades a hint soon, about 5-7 seconds! Also in the Stock Aitken Waterman production area, there's also the hot 12" of "love in the first degree" by Bananarama and "he ain't no competition" by brother beyond.

There's also the longer 12" version of "we close our eyes" by Go West--it is usually the 5:55 `total overhang' mix that makes it to CD compilations. Bigger problem this time. On the vinyl 12" there is a synth string orchestral intro that last about 20 seconds before the beat kicks in. It's been completely REMOVED from this transfer to CD so the song starts right on the beat! BUMMER. Do they really think fanatical collectors aren't going to notice these things when a CD promises the FULL LENGTH 12" VERSIONS??? Anyway, it is available, with orchestral opening intact on the 3 CD set "Original 80s Remix Box Set".

Plus there are no less than FIVE songs by 80s nrg writing team Ian Levine & Fiachra Trench, including one by the queen of their music, Evelyn Thomas.

Let's just hope all 15 volumes of this series are released, as promised--with more avoidance of edting or fading songs early....
