"This talented group is the nucleus of cuba's never ending passion for music. Los Van Van are impressive and vibrant. I do not think thier can ever be another, so let the music play on. May cuban music continue to prosper as it has been over 40 years. Love it, sleep it, eat it. Can not stop listening! Azucar Asede!"

"I remember listening to this when it first came out in 1994 right before I left cuba, it was the hottest 'casino' to have hit the parties in years. Back then I was only 9 and I knew it was quality music, more than ten years later I still listen to it and it gets better everytime.

For those of you who have been living in fallout shelter since 1960, the musical genius Juan Formell and his orchestra, Los Van Van haven been churning out hit after hit from their very begining. Revolutionizing the salsa scene in Cuba, forming what Cubans call "casino" which contains a lot more keyboards than salsa music, and more steady pace. Hits like "Chirrin Chirran" "Yo Quiero Una Flaca" in 1974 made them club favorites. During the 1980's they completely took over the dance floors in Cuban

with songs like "La Titimanía," "El negro no tiene na","Se acabó el querer" among the many, Van Van set the standard for Cuban salsa in the years to come.

Azucar is a must have for dancers and salsa lovers, it combines typical Van Van lyrics, which are fun, light-hearted, and witty with the Cuban double standards. Musically it has perfect arrangement, with percusion and bass lead rhythms, making it hard to stay still; the keyboards are also excellent in adding to the urge to getting up and dancing, even with a broom.

Highlight songs are "Ese es mi problema," " Que le den candela" both sung by Van Van's most solid vocalist Pedro Calvo, and finally "Disco Azucar." This is top notch Casino/Timba/Salsa from Cuba's most legendary musicians.

P.S. Also Look for "Chapeando" their 2005 release...containing new material, and also very good."
