Synopsis

Album Description
The new CD from Valarie King is ?Only Time Will Tell? and follows closely on the heels of her Grammy nominated debut release, ?Today, Tomorrow and Forever?. She is indeed a big talent and happy to buck the trend that has made it difficult for flautists to find their way to the metaphoric hall of contemporary jazz fame. This is the formula that she has perfected with ?Only Time Will Tell?, a combination of reenergized vintage hits from the 70?s, fresh new music and guest appearances by Hubert Laws, Patrice Rushen and Jeff Clayton.

CD Reviews

A Summer Breeze ......
RICHARD J. THOMAS | Gwent United Kingdom | 05/17/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Valarie King may be a new name to some, but this highly talented flutist and vocalist has appeared on countless quality recordings over many years.

"Only Time Will Tell" sees Valarie recruiting some of LA's creme de la creme on this, her second solo release.

With a resume citing such gigs as Ella, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Tony Bennett and Ray Charles, Valarie's instrumental passion shines on such lilting jazz numbers as the cover of Natalie Cole & Linda Williams' "La Costa" featuring fine guitar work from Greg Por e, the crisp "Night Crawlers", written by Gregory Cook and featuring the sublime Patrice Rushen on electric piano and the funk jam "Hot Slice", featuring the talents of Jeff Clayton on alto sax.

Valarie plays flute, alto flute, piccolo and bass flute - and plays them exquisitely.

Other musicians featured on this release are Munyungo Jackson, a guesting Hubert Laws & bassist Tony Dumas.

Weighing in at over 70 minutes of music and 14 tracks, this is a joy from start to finish and deserves to be heard.

Highly recommended.
