VIVA DELAY!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is another piece of absolute goregousness by one of the worlds foremost 'micro' electronica artists.

What you get here are 10 lenghty slabs of precision-crafted retro tech/house. This is made through very clever arrangements of micro samples which create a dense and challenging soundscape full of subtleties but with a certain degree of melody, thus making it (kind of) dancable. The sound is more akin to Luomo's (vocalcity) than Delay's more abstract works such as (4 quarters) and gives images of smokey, hazey, 'ultra sophisticated' dancefloors at 3am where you can just about see beautiful girls hypnotising you with there slow dance-movements through the pyrotechnics. There are elements of occasional spliced vocal snippets which work very well and elements micro-dub (i.e. echo) which shine through in some songs and the beats are also very well arranged and so those complaining of 4/4's dominating will find much pleasure here.

Production wise, this is obviously immense. Delay specialises in creating very warm organic sounding sounds with a wide soundstage, something which is especailly important when there are many nuances.

My favourite tracks are the murky track 5 and tracks 1 + 7. All the tracks are great and it works as a whole however i do tend to skip track 3.

To get the most out of this album you need a quality sound-system to reveal all the subtlies. It is these subtlies that make this album so rewarding after the 100th listen.
