CD Reviews

Phenomenal
Weasel | 02/07/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a pure party on a disc. If this stuff doesn't get a crowd moving nothing will. It's fun as hell, varied, and retro without being dated about it and upbeat without being (too) cheesy. It's a little more uptempo and forward than a loungecore compilation might expect, it's primarily funky breakbeat with a 60s flavor. Lovers of Fantastic Plastic Machine, or Deee-Lite need to check this out immediately."
Fantabulous blast of kitschfunk!

"Ursula 1000 built this mix album with a total DJ/techno ethos, but the music, beats, singing, EVERYTHING is soaked in a kind of Austin Powers-lounge-martini-swinger vibe. Latin percussion, organs, techno flourishes, horns, analog synths, and kickin' beats are pureed into a simmering greasy funk that is just irresistable. No one cool should listen to this kind of music, but if you have any cool in you at all you will be on your feet shaking your thang all over the place!

The New Hotness!

"Ursula was the guy on the fringe of my big audio taste buds since I became hip to the ESL sound....his boogaloo-ness was cool, but not as cool as the phat tracks the 1212 crew was dropping, so... I never really got in to it. Then I stumbled upon his mix tape (which was a "study" for this album I think)... let me tell you, it was like being addicted to heroin! I couldn't make it through the day without listening to it! One of the best dance albums this year without question (definitely rates up there with NOW and TC DJ Kicks (my two all-time favorites)."
