Synopsis

Product Description
On Purpose, the sizzling 4th album from powerhouse Unified Tribe (nominee, 2007 American Black Music Awards, Best Live Band ) and front man Magic Mendez (winner, 2007 American Black Music Awards, Best Neo Soul Performer, Male ) is a soulful R&B explosion. The new release showcases 14 exquisitely produced tracks from Mendez, whose potent arrangements have been the demo content for the last three SONAR releases from global software giant Cakewalk by Roland. Mastered at Capitol Records, On Purpose is a rhythmic power play that delivers major musical mojo. Its songs fuse jazz, blues, pop and soul, and range from sultry slow jams to blazing dance tracks. Def melodies, rich harmonies and themes from challenges to enchantment make On Purpose a musical and emotional joyride that bridges generations and genres. It is intense and relevant, moving the listener through personal and collective experiences that remind us that limits and boundaries are imagined. One planet! One tribe! In a 2008 NAMM review Cakewalk wrote, Magic Mendez creates some of the best sounding productions we have ever heard come out of SONAR. Impressive, since Cakewalk s products are used by millions of people world-wide (Ray Charles produced his last three albums using SONAR.) Mendez s wizardry with orchestration and layers is magnificently apparent on every cut and particularly fun on three tracks where he turns the Jamaican patois of guest performer Bonny B (drummer for Spiro Gyra) into textural background masterpieces. Often Mendez shares lead vocals with one of the fabulous female singers who also play instruments in the group. The ladies come together sans Mendez on Moving On, a song so liberating it is destined to become an anthem for both genders. Unified Tribe was nominated in 2007 for Best Live Band because the multi-cultural group of fiery men and women are spectacular on stage. Described by Selecto Steve of Select-O-Hits as talented to the point of perfection, the versatile musicians empower their audiences as they deliver super-charged, unforgettable performances. Unified Tribe represents R&B s heart and soul and they do it On Purpose.
