Synopsis

Album Description
Becoming Aware is the debut album from ethereal rock duo Unfinished Thought. Driven by delicate vocal harmonies and compulsive guitar playing, the album creates a layered atmosphere that is both fragile and haunting. Becoming Aware delivers deceptively beautiful musical textures while exploring themes such as mental illness, obsession, addiction, and depression. This is an album that combines introspective ideas with dark rock elements to create a unique and interesting piece of music. "Imagine if William Orbit and Trent Reznor produced the Cure albums of the late 80's. Add in female vocals and maybe the picture is a little more complete. Kiser is happy to use keyboard washes of all sorts: some warm, some harsh and some almost indescribably beautiful. He refuses to follow the book, and so the sounds here are fresh and unexpected. Kiser and Nelson have put together an album of uncommon beauty and power. If you want to know where electronic music is going, this disc might give you a clue." -Jon Worley, Aiding & Abetting

CD Reviews

Evanescence's little sibling!
Chris Kleczynski | Chantilly, VA | 09/25/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Very good musical detail overall. A little less angry sounding than Amy from Evanescence--little more haunting and dreamlike in some areas. Some beats seem slightly underpolished and have more 80's synth feel much like Eurithmycs but are endearing since they are at least unique. The album overall has a good spectrum of range so it keeps you interested, more so than albums such as Staind's or Lincoln Park's which can get somewhat repetative, can sound like one long song and cause spontaneous ear bleeding. ;)Overall, a very good debut album that keeps you interested with songs that vary in feeling and style. After some acoustical and rythmic maturation, expect to see their name in the credits at a theater near you!"
Good thing I became aware and bought this..

"If you read another review I did on their other CD, it's easy to see that I REALLY like this band. This CD was the easiest 5/5 star ever. Once again, UT gives you a sampling of all they've got. You get Rock, Gothic-vibe sound, acoustic, PURE PIANO (whick, when done right, is hard to beat), and everything in between.

First of all, "Sonnet" is awesome. It's the Pure Piano song as I like to call it, b/c it's all piano and vocal. Then there's "Quiet" which almost sounds like a Godsmack song. Also, "My Valentines Last Breath" is a touching, haunting song. Like I mentioned, every song in my opinion, is dead on and there is not one on here that I was even tempted to fast forward."
Amazing and Thoughgt Provoking: The Uniqueness of UT

"For any band, the pressures of a first record is unexplainable. It is this first record that gives the world a taste of your music and sets all expectations up. If it fails, second chances rarely change the listeners mindset. Unfinished Thought however have seemingly tackled this problem with an incredible sense of gracefulness, and passionate beauty that can only be expressed with listening to the music.

If you've ever been interested in trying out new musical styles or you just enjoy the eerie, thought provoking sounds of haunting, real-life pain and sorrow, Unfinished Thought is a must for you. In fact, Unfinished Thought is a must for anyone's collection.

Download tracks from the bands website (www.unfinishedthought.com) to preview the beautiful sounds of Voices, the heart-clenching Xoe and the ever so true, Disenchanted. After hearing these songs, you will find it impossible to pass up the opportunity of buying Becoming Aware, or even better, their second album, Based On Actual Events.

Unfinished Thought is the type of artist who will make you stop and listen - and you will be glad you did."
