CD Reviews

This edition isn't really worth it.

"As happens with many albums, a version of an album is released for the Japanese with bonus material (apparently shipping costs are high as they don't like to import foreign music, so the bands compensate their fans there by offsetting the extra cost with extra songs). Here, the Beaucoup Fish album was released with a bonus CD of mixes. I won't review the main album here as it has been reviewed already. The bonus tracks a mixed bag, though. The mix of Cups is a nice disco-inflected remix. The mix of Bruce Lee, has been given a slowed-out robotic beat that work wells. But the mix of King of Snake, is like every other Dave Clarke mix I've ever heard: take out the drums, and add a vague build-up to the track that never actually goes anywhere( of course, if you like Dave Clarke, then this mix would appeal to you). The mix of Jumbo is not much different from the original, just with the main melody stuttered a bit. These four are also available on the singles box set for much cheaper. The only real reason to buy this then, is the Narcotic Haze Dub of Push Upstairs, which is actually just an instrumental of the Blue Plastic People mix on the singles box set, but doesn't appear anywhere else but here. The track itself is good enough even without the lyrics, but spending import prices just for one instrumental version of a track easily found elsewhere isn't really worth it. Get the album and the box set (doing so gets you more tracks, and would actually be cheaper, as this version isn't readily available anymore). But if you're a completionist, it's got one track you don't have on it."
