Trumpeter Amy Schendel maintains an active career as a performing artist. As a featured soloist, Schendel has played with the Indiana University Orchestra, University of Iowa Orchestra and Band, Texas Womans University Wind Ensemble, and many others. She has also performed extensively with Minnesota Orchestra, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, and Texas Winds. In Europe, Schendel has appeared with the Augsburger Philharmoniker and in chamber concerts in Augsburg, Berlin and Munich. In 2012, Schendel appeared at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, International Women s Brass Conference and Iowa Band Masters Association Conference. She also gave the premier of Joseph Blaha's French Suite at the 2012 International Horn Symposium in Denton, Texas, and the premier of Wayne Lu's Partita for Brass Trio at the 2013 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Also an active chamber and ensemble musician, Schendel currently plays with the Iowa Brass Quintet and Contrapunctus Brass Trio. Previous positions include Spoleto Festival USA, Wisconsin Brass Quintet, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra and Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Dr. Schendel has also won trumpet positions with the United States Marine Band, The President s Own, and the United States Air Force Ceremonial Band in Washington, D.C. As a recording artist, in 2010 Schendel released her first CD with Todd Schendel, Full Power, which features Abe Lincoln's Song Book, written by Douglas Hill for the Contrapunctus Brass Trio. A former student of John Aley, John Rommel, Manny Laureano, Uwe Kleindienst, Gary Bordner and others, Schendel has degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Indiana University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at Madison, she was a Paul J. Collins Wisconsin Distinguished Fellow and co-author of a grant, Western Wisconsin Cultural Initiative, which provided supplemental music performances to rural school districts.
