"Hooray for Pavilion Records and all other organizations collecting early recordings and transferring them to CD for the world to enjoy! Of course since they are EARLY recordings (1917-1927) it has that fizzy wax sound to it and the lyrics get mushy at times. That either makes it endearing or annoying, depending on your perspective. It's lovely to finally hear the Brox Sisters sing again, let John Steel's tenor soar, and to hear what You'd Be Surprised sounded like sung by a girl. The earliest songs of Irving Berlin may not be his best, but are a refreshing glimpse into his 30s. Half of the songs on this disc debuted in Berlin's own Music Box Revue at the theater he built after WWI."
