CD Reviews

Sadness and strength
Bo Persson | Sweden | 03/27/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is Lundells personal "Blood on the tracks", spilled out on a double-cd which took everyone in Scandinavia by storm in 1985. The lyrics were even more personal than on "Blood...", sometimes almost unbearable to listen to - yet so beautiful. It's a record that will knock you off your feet, regarded as one of the top 3 of Lundells production since his debut in 1975. The songs are extremely powerful, no matter the tempo. Lundell and his co-producers, Kjell Andersson (longtime sidekick and producer, head of Swedish EMI) and Lasse Lindbom (co-producer since Kar & Galen) devoted a lot of time to the sound of the songs. Nothing is left to chance, it's all brilliant. From the majestic opening to the slow ending, this is nothing but a triumph for rock at its best, evoking more feelings than I can tell you and probably building emotional bridges across languagebarriers around the world. Lundell has always drawn a lot of inspiration from both Dylan and Springsteen and you can hear the influences on some songs. But mainly this is HIS album and songs about a marriage falling apart, about the hurt, the rage of a shattered family and hopes gone astray. The harsh cover underlines the sentiment of the songs and the album. A classic."
Amazing!

"Just found this album in a store in New Orleans, the man behind the desk told me to check it out. Ulf Lundell is a Sweede, singing, playing harmonica like no one I ever heard. Don't understand a word hi is singing but it is unbelivabe. More power, more feeling, more of everything tha Springsteen ever got. Just by it, I am planning to go to Sweden for my first visit, have to see him in a consert./Bukowski"
