UFO has never been better
David Bonesteel | Fresno, CA United States | 08/07/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Lights Out" is an essential part of my teenage memories. Along with UFO's live "Strangers in the Night," it was in heavy rotation in my and my cousin's 8-track players throughout high school. Years went by, my musical tastes changed (somewhat) and became more diverse, 8-tracks went out of style, and I never bothered to replace the UFO in my music collection. That has now been rectified. Coming back to this classic disc after about twenty years is like meeting an old friend. I thought I had forgotten all but the choruses and some of the more memorable riffs, but every chord and lyric comes racing back to me in a curious mixture of freshness and familiarity. This is UFO at their best. If you don't care for it, there's no need to listen to anything else by them. But it's hard to imagine any fan of good old-fashioned arena rock resisting this collection of great songs. Standouts include "Love to Love," "Lights Out," and "Alone Again Or."

Right On...

"UFO is a seriously under rated band. They have catchy songs, proficient instrumentals and pretty damn good vocals. Why they are constantly overlooked is a mystery.

This album starts out slow, with Too Hot to Handle, an extended ambient instrumental introduction seguing into a pretty good vocal part. Just Another Suicide is another excellent song, but the album does not let up there. It climaxes at what may very well be the best UFO song ever written: Lights Out. I still don't know what that song was about, but it has one hell of a hook, both lyrically and instrumentally. Thsi song alone would be worth the entire price-tag.

Unfortunately, UFO is one of the best bands that you will never hear, but their contribution to classic metal is substantial. This is their best album and is easily worth buying."
