CD Reviews

U.S. Maple continues to churn out inventive music....
MAMA | Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada | 11/18/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Though some may criticize the songs on U.S. Maple's latest effort Purple on Time. for being more / too linear, I look to a band like U.S. Maple to not rewrite their history and give me something a little different with every release. I think they have accomplished it here with the use of a few more conventional sounding chords and a 'little less' atonality and rhythmic chaos than on previous releases, while still keeping the abstraction in their song construction that lured me in on their first full length release Long Hair in Three Stages. Like it or not, U.S. Maple continues to be a band that challenges preconceptions and it's audience. Purple on Time. rewards repeated listens as all great music does..."
"Purple" Has the Power
MAMA | 11/19/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"After the somewhat pallid experience of "Acre Thrills", this new CD is just what every U.S. Maple fan has been dreaming of! Filled with raucous riffing as well as the bluesy nod-offs that are their signature, "Purple on Time." delivers pure, uncut Maple from start to finish. Even the shocking cover song choice is rendered with a true, twisted U.S. Maple soul groove. Tight, memorable song structures (it's true! there's a method to their so-called 'madness') still feature plenty of the spurting blood and phlegm that so many remember this band for. True, their drummer has changed - but U.S. Maple remains the same. "Purple on Time." is a great addition to the U.S. Maple collection - and in some ways, their best yet."
Different but still Great
Zero G | CLEVELAND | 12/23/2003

"If you listen to US Maple now, you already know that they are different. But this album is a little different from the others. And if those old US Maple tunes stuck in your head after a few listens, these will embed themselves quicker. A little catcher, a little groovier. If you are the US Maple fan that loves it when the band finally gets into it, this is the album for you!"
