"This release is exactly what the title says: A collection of hit singles, augmented with a few selected B-sides.

The Turtles were characterized by a very fine vocal work with singer Howard Kaylan in front. Furthermore, the group had a great flair for choosing the right songs, with eight top-twenty hits and a further 9 in the top-hundred. The group wrote only a few of their singles themselves, but were relatively diligent contributors to their six albums. The Ray Davies-produced album "Turtle Soup" from 1969 consisted entirely of self-written songs.

As mentioned before this CD puts focus on the group's singles, but actually there's much more to go for their albums. If you won't settle for the group's best-known songs the two CD set "Solid Zinc" from 2002 can be strongly recommended - unfortunately this release seems to be already deleted and can therefore be difficult to find.

The notes on the booklet are sparse but relevant."
