Nice Little CD...
Kalie A. Gipson | 09/07/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The reason behind my title, "Nice Little CD" is the fact that this album is short with 11 tracks, it runs for only around an hour, but it's a nice, solid album. Just so we don't get confused, I haven't heard any other work from Turk other than what's on this album, so I can't compare this to any other albums that has been put out by this kid.

In my opinion, there is no unlistenable track on here. Even the intro, "Live From The Lab" is worth a listen. Kenoe is talking on it, and he's telling all the haters and the people that don't buy the albums but download them to "suck a..." and you can tell the rest. Now enter "Raw And Off The Chain". This song is okay, I really like the chorus on it. The beat is above average too. "Doin My Thing" has a guest appearence by Kenoe, who also produced the joint. It's not the best on the album, but it doesn't get skipped because like I said before, no song on here is unlistenable. "Killer" is a tight track. You know, it's about being an underaged killer. The chorus is cool, even though it's slow. "I'ma Dog" is one of my favorites. I love the chorus, and it's about how he only looks like he does, but he'll take your life away. "Do It For The Money" isn't the best, but not the worst. It's about how he does everything for the money, if it's not clear by the title. "Life's A Gamble is another favorite of mine. It's about how it's easy to lose when you"re playing the cards of life. Very true. "You Put It Together Remix" is probably the worst song on here, which isn't saying much. He doesn't flow well on the beat. I'd like to hear the real version. "Music Makes Me High" with Lil Man is another one of my favorites on the album. It's completely about how music can get him really high. He just can't get enough of it. It has a Jamaican sound to it. "All I Got In This World" is my favorite, above the rest. It's about how the only thing he has is drugs and his gats. The chorus is another that's cool. "Heartache" is a great song, but it's kinda placed wrong. You have all these songs about Turk wanting to kill people, and how he's coldhearted, then makes a song about why people just want to kill each other, and they need to stop. Don't get me wrong, the song is great but odd.

Well, you probably know this album isn't the most popular right now. That's because in my opinion, no song is radio-friendly. I don't know what the term "Radio-Friendly" mean to long hip-hop heads, but I believe it has to do with some songs on the radio these days. There is no bling-bling song on here, no party song, nothing you here on the radio these days. So, my final words are to pick this album up. It's raw and rugged, and I'm suprised Turk isn't that known these days. 5 Stars"
3rd time not the charm

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Turk's 3rd album drops, "Penitentary Chances", and this one is not nearly as well put together as "Raw and Uncut". I'm only feeling a couple of tracks so far (4,5)......but my favorites are track 2, 6, and 7TRACK 2 - "Raw and off the chain" - turk flows real nice over this track and beat ain't too bad. The intro by Kenoe was funny as hell also.
Track 3- "Doin My Thing" - tight beat and chorus but something about it doesn't make it H-O-T, and plus kenoe doesn't help out much on the track.
Track 4, "Killer" - is alright, seems to lack lil something more though.
Track 5, "I'm A Dog", tight lyrics and beat but doesn't flow together too well.
Track 6, "Do it for the money" - this beat is awesome and turk sounds and flows magnificent - but who are the others the rap on this joint???.....they don't pull through as much as turk but i still like this track.
Track 7 "life's a gamble" - i like the lyrics and the beats aight. Things i don't like about this album are: 1) there's only 11 song, but thats understandable since turk's in the pen..... 2) There's not as many 'Awesome' or 'better than decent' songs on this album as there was on "Raw and Uncut", which could be also since turk was recently arrested......3) Kenoe and anyone else who usually features on the album doesn't help the tracks they're on....but usually make them worse instead cuz they don't flow good with the beat or with turks flow.....4) track 10 "all i got in this world" is on the Raw and Uncut album and the "You Put it together Remix (track 8)" wasn't very well redone, the original song "who put it together" on the Raw and Uncut album was better than this and thats not saying much since it wasn't good either, and if they were gonna put tracks on this album from the previous cd i think they coulda picked way better tracks than these ones. 5) I wish they'd get BG, Juve or someone to jump on a track or few wit Turk! 6)Some of these songs were made in 2003Anywayz overall the cds aight, it definately could of been better, but its just that it sounds like they threw together the last of the Turk songs they had left and made an album. This cd will only be enjoyable to Turk fans and maybe even a disappoint. But you gotta give it probs still since Turk's in the Penitentiary and can't really put much input into this cd."
