Re-worked version of "Genius..." plus a bit more

"HFOS is a partially re-recorded version of the songs on their 1995 release "Genius of America". A few lyric alterations have been made, the arrangements are a bit different on some songs, and a song from Fee Waybill's 1996 solo disc "Don't Be Scared By These Hands" is included. The title track, which sounds like it could have been a missing track from "Genius.." is okay but not great.
Lord knows I love The Tubes, but this disc is a collectible for the serious fan only. It will be interesting to us Tubes fans, but it will not serve as a good introduction to the band for potential new fans.Of course, you should still buy it! I mean, c'mon! Support The Tubes any and every chance you get! But for a better representative sample of their work try their stuff from their early demos to their 1983 album "Outside/Inside"."
Hoods From Outer Space

"A Tubes fan since the 70's, "Hoods From Outer Space" is a great album. However, the album needs to be listened to several times to get "in the groove" with it. Then it becomes apparent that the Tubes are still showing their stuff even without Cotton, Spooner, or Welnick. "Who Names The Hurricanes" is a very cool jazzy number with Prairie Prince demonstating why he is the best drummer of all time. "Fastest Gun Alive"
starts out as an average song then springs to life toward the end with killer guitar/keyboard/piano melodies that would have made Vince Welnick smile. "Genius of America" is a melodramatic look at America. Catchy tune but kind of sad because it's so true! "Fishhouse" took over where the Beatles left off after they did Yellow Submarine then Octopuses Garden.
I wish I had bought this years ago. I am really enjoying it."
