True Brothers Sing The Hits of Webb Pierce
Tracy Austin | Summerfield, NC USA | 11/07/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Many people don't know it because it's not common knowledge, but there's a brother duo on the country music scene that's carrying on in the tradition of great country and western pioneers like the Wilburn Brothers and Webb Pierce. Speaking of Pierce that's the gentleman, that this new CD is dedicated to. Pierce was in his hayday as hot as Garth Brooks is today. Scoring 13 number 1 hits, 68 top tens and 97 charted singles in all. Not to mention many hit albums. He recorded for Decca Records and its successor MCA, from the years 1951 to 1975. His hits are represented here like 'Back Street Affair', 'There Stands The Glass', 'Slowly', 'More and More', 'In the Jailhouse Now', 'I Don't Care', 'Love, Love, Love', 'Why Baby Why', 'I Ain't Never', etc., etc. Special guest on many of these numbers includes bluegrass legend Bobby Atkins. Himself a Decca artist form the mid 70s and who was once a member of Bill Monroes' Bluegrass Boys. As well as recording many albums for Old Homestead, in its day it was the Rounder of Bluegrass Music. Known for his guitar shaped swimming pool and his famous silver dollar car Webb was the ultimate hillbilly singer from his patent leather black hair to his flashy nudie suits. Webb to was a successful business man. Opening the second publishing firm in the early 50s Cedarwood which signed writers who would become stars in their own right, like Mel Tillis and Cindy Walker; who's in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The album contains a wonderful liner note by Roger True of the duo, telling of the songs orgins. A must have for any TRUE True Brothers fan. Due out October 3rd look for the two song cassette single 'Hurt Her Once for Me', a loving tribute to the boys idols The Wilburn Brothers."
