Synopsis

Album Description
In its premier recording, this trio of veteran New York musicians uses sound and improvisation to create musical spaces that are at once beautiful and thrilling. Utilizing their unique blend of instruments: guitar, baritone guitar, 5 string bass, piccolo bass, alto and soprano saxophones, Tronzo, Granelli, and Epstein forge a personal language of music that is considerably greater than the sum of its parts. Drawing from its collective experience, the trio creates music that ranges from ambient to the blues and back.

Mesmerizing small masterpiece
Jan P. Dennis | Monument, CO USA | 04/18/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ambient industrial improvised bloozy jazz. Can you dig it? You can if you've got big ears. What we've got here is three of the finest young downtown players--Peter Epstein on sax, David Tronzo on slide guitar, and J. A. Granelli on various basses--placing themselves into an almost free improv environment. What they come up is nothing short of amazing. My favorite track is Dance of the Hillbilly Robots (nice name), with some way tasty slide work by Tronzo and punchy alto licks from Epstein. Not as demented as their labelmates--Ez Pour Spout--Tronzo, Granelli, and Epstein purvey their own kind of weirdness, albeit probably a lot more approachable to the average listener. Foo's also a highlight, with some very tasty slide work and haunting soprano sax.Amazing sonic palette from such spare instrumentation. Highly recommended."
