Great Electric Brazil

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Oh boy... I remember the day I got this one and the night I first listened to it. On the way to a latin club in Boston, I was early, sunroof open, nice system, warm but not too hot night in early August of 2000. Good memories, great beats and some pretty impressive tracks! This is the first in the series of Trip Do Brasil cd's, which I believe spans to 3 volumes with the 3rd aptly titled 2.5 (remix project). And this was a great foundation. You have awesome electronic rythms, fantastic beats and some pretty sweet charm in the cuts. Listening to the way Braz'iu glides in your sound system will certainly get you. It's consistent, and then the little touch of the piano and guitar that's just a slight slight slight step behind. And then there's Chorando Sim, a throwback to an old Brazilian classic. Not to mention DJ Cam's jazzed up and beat mix of "Crickets Sing for Ana Maria", a cut made famous by Marcos Valle. I highly recommend this cd. While it's certainly a bit old in terms of the current standards, it does the trick for me in remembering and pointing out where some of the artists of now get some ideas. Please note - not all of the tracks really pulled me in, and some of the material here is a bit dated. But that's not enough for me to pull it down to the middle of the pack in rating. I'd also recommend picking up the second edition which is a little bit jazzier and a step up from this one, whnich by now seems "raw". The third, the remix project, is also quite good but not quite as strong as the original two. But Ibis Vermelho in the remix is pretty good."
