CD Reviews

Well Worth The Wait
L. Johnson | 03/30/2008

"There are so many things I could say about this album, but the title of the my review is just: this album, created about 10 years ago and finally just seeing the light of day, is well worth the wait for those of us who have been hoping this album would finally be released. The album features lots of live instrumentation and flows really well. I enjoy each and every song and it's rare that I can listen to an album in its entirety. A very beautiful and soulful project. It also includes one Christmas track that I'm enjoying listening to despite it not being Christmas time. Trina's a superb vocalist and the production is outstanding. This album was deemed the greatest album to never be released by Jermaine Dupri in the book he released last year, since she was a protege of his. This album is for folks with maturity who can get past the music that's been shoved down our throats since the turn of the century: club joints with simple, stupid and exploitive lyrics. We need to support artists like Trina."

"I like many, many, people on here, have often been guilty of over marking on some of my reviews, especially when I first started. I can on occasion go over board when I first hear a CD, but that comes with the territory: for lovers of music, that excitement is what drives us. Excitement being the opportune word one would use to describe this re-lease of this 1999 CD, original out on So-So Def, but now brought out of the vaults by Expansion Records (Ralph Tee, respect due)

This is a quality that SHOULD have made this lady a superstar in the waiting. Why it hasn't, (and the fact that I wasn't aware of this CD on release) says alot about the music Industry today.

Anyway onto the CD, with production by, Jamey Jaz, Waryn Campbell, Gordon Williams, Kelvin Broughton and Ms Broussard, with Rahsaan Patterson on writing duties, this CD is a must for lovers of mid-to-slow tempo modern soul. From the first note to the last it just oozes class. I can honestly say that's there not a bad song on here. No filler, no let-s try -and make the pop market. Just good old fashion relationship music. The quality songs just keep on coming. I struggle to pick out the highlights, but if pushed, I would say that 'Sailing'( which I have heard before, but did not attribute it to Ms Broussard)which, once I knew was on here, made me buy this, quick fast, in a hurry, the glorious, 'Inside My Love' ( from the Love Jones film), and the one up-tempo song on here 'Remember Me' but that just me picking hairs: this is quality big people music, that deserves to be heard, as much as this lady deserves all the success she gets. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deserves more hype

"It amazes me that not many people even mention Trina Broussard or this album. This album by itself is over and above anything Beyawnce and Spamshanti could come up with. When I first heard this album I was shocked. This album is too good for words and I havent felt this way about an R&B album since the 90s.

How can you listen to tracks like Losing My Mind, Why Do I Feel So Sad, Sailing and All I Need Is You and not feel them? You cant be a fan of soul music and not like tracks like All Night Long, Remember Me and Not Around. You must admit that Inside My Love was great off of the Love Jones Soundtrack(wonderful soundtrack for a wonderful movie) and is still great now. And you must heard the single I Love You So Much(which sample Notorious Big's I Got A Story To Tell) before.

Long story short, if you love soul music you must have this album in your possession. Trina's vocals are beautiful and the excellent production complements her voice. Inside My Love is R&B in its purist form. R&B is suffering right now because these predatory record executives are giving these overrated and overstated pop stars carte blanche while the R&B singers with actual talent struggle. Im glad to see this album get praised by the reviewers on Amazon but it needs more praise. Trina Broussard's Inside My Love is a gem not to be missed. I listened to this album from start to finish without skipping a track. How many of you can say that about of the R&B albums that come out nowadays? Just like I thought."
