CD Reviews

This is not dub

"I'm a big fan of dub, and by dub I mean the Jamaican reggae offshoot as played by King Tubby, Big Joe, Burning Spear (his dub, at least), Horace Andy, Jah Stitch, Soul Syndicate, Scientist, et cetera. I'm also a big fan of Radiohead, and thought that this album would be interesting, and hopefully good.

I am terribly disappointed in this album, as it isn't dub at all. It's entirely electronic and very "European pop-techno" sounding. Even if I wasn't disappointed in the lack of Jamaican dub, all the tracks are still very poor and boring, at least in my opinion. It's as though someone just wanted to make some coin off a Radiohead association and took a weekend in their garage to "remix" some Radiohead tracks...none of it is interesting at all, and whomever did the remixing simply isn't good at it. The artwork is contrived, obviously trying to be Radiohead-esque but really misses the mark and just makes me feel embarrassed.

Maybe my knowledge of dub is "old school" and dub means more now or something, but to me, calling this dub is totally misleading. If you like dub and/or like Radiohead, there's an excellent chance you may be sorely disappointed with this record because for me, it really misses the mark for both."
Radiohead for dub fans, not Radiohead fans

"I researched this item, and saw some poor reviews.

Howoever, I thought that maybe my broad musical tastes would mean I would still appreciate it.

I didn't. 5% Radiohead, 95% dub/mix/other.

I always want to love anything radiohead, but this B*****d baby doesn't fit.

If you love Dub, then maybe you'll get something from this.

I like some Dub, but am more familiar with Radiohead.

Amazon have kindly supplied some samples - listen and see what you think.

I've played it twice. First time I didn't like it. Then I have it a few days, listened again, and still didn't like it.

If you have to own everything Radiohead related on CD, then buy it. That's what I did. In hindsight, I wouldn't buy it again.

Disappointed - particularly as they must have got permission from Radiohead to put this together."
