CD Reviews

If not a true "best of" album, a good place to start
09/03/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Trapezoid is a wonderful group of musicians' musicians. Their work is sophisticated and original, while being rooted in tradition and place (the mountains of western Virginia/West VA). The loosely composed ensemble has been together a long time, and they've perfected their sound. Occasionally you'll hear a few seconds of their work framing the segments on NPR's "All Things Considered." The duets sung by Lorraine Duisit and Freyda Epstein, as on "Bramble and a Rose"--exquisite! I'm not convinced that "Long Time Down This Road" qualifies as a "best of" album, but it's a good place to start if you aren't familiar with this fine group. Just don't stop here."
