CD Reviews

Consider your beats broken!
Trees B | Toronto, ON CANADA | 02/25/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Tal M. Klein is the DJ! He's a whole lot more, too--he's a professional breaker of beats, and he's put together a great batch o' beats this time out, as well as found sounds, funky bits, samples and grooves. His earlier work was already pretty darned good, but it was a warmup for this, which is tight, funky, without a beat wasted."
Re-educating Davey
Dave Vinson | Knoxville, Tn | 04/04/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"...Tal Klein (who IS Trancenden, apparently) has stepped in to re-educate me. Peace Love Beats is dance music for people who need for the music to be as important as the dance. Unendingly fun, it also indicates its' creator's clever musical curiousity that fills the grooves up with a dazzling succession of surprises. Klein demonstrates a genre-crossing knowledge of music, pulling in bits and samples from across 4 decades worth of popular music, but avoids the common trap of simply aping the source music. You will hear references to artists as disparate as Sly and the Family Stone, Steve Miller, Angelo Badalamaneti, and Portishead, but it's still a wholy original blend of both upbeat and slower contemplative pieces. It's great, and you will hate yourself if you don't hear it. Download the clips available here for a taste, but order the CD for the full experience.I put the disc on at a large party last weekend while on a beach trip. When it first started, we heard a lot of kneejerk reactions about how people didn't like "that kind" of music. The whole disc played without interruption. Later, when we left the party, with most of the younger crowd still hanging out, they wouldn't let us leave with it. We were told later that it got played twice more before the party broke up. What better endorsement could you ask for?Don't have a party without it."
Rump shaking funk

"If you have any love for old school funk or hip hop, you oughta check this out. Play this CD at your next party, and I guarantee everybody will be tapping their foot and bouncing around to this. This CD embodies what funk and fun hip hop is all about - music so good you can't help but dance to it. I keep this CD in my car all the time, it's great to listen to while driving. I cannot say enough good stuff about this music - I'm glad I discovered it."
