CD Reviews

Pirate fun

"You will love this CD. While labeled as pirate music, most of this comes from an Irish background. The jigs and whirls are very charming and sound authentic. It works as sea-going music, and they shoe-horn it as pirate songs with a nice booklet that has a brief story for each song to set the visualized picture in your mind. This is neccessary since there are very few lyrics on the whole CD, it is mostly instrumental. But what instruments, all authentic! The booklet is very well done, the sound on the CD is crisp and clear. There are some few nautical pirate sound effects at the beginning of each song, but it does not intrude on the music. Depending on what you want from this CD, that can be good or bad.

If you want more sound effects and banter of pirates, but less authentic music, try "Bedtime music for Pirates" also at Amazon. The quality and authenticity of the Toucans CD is better. The music reminds me of the soundtrack of a film I watched about the mutiny of the HMS Bounty that had Mel Gibson in it. Anyway, I reccommend this CD."
Toucan Pirates know their way around a ship, Matey!

"I needed background music for a children's puppet show. After listening to MANY CD's of sea chanties, nautical music, traditional hornpipes, etc. I happened upon Battle Songs of the Toucan Pirates. It was perfect! The traditional-style songs are lively and well done. The background noises such as ship's bells and waves add to the fun. I have listened to it for 34 performances so far and still like it. Believe me, that is a recommendation! I only wish I could get my hands on their first CD."
Solid Cd

"This is a very solid showing in the pirate music catagory. Pirate music is hard to find and good pirate music is almost impossible to find. Worth the money. Arg."
