Dissapointing 3rd album from Torture Killer
Nick Danger | Manchester, England | 04/14/2009
(2 out of 5 stars)

"After Torture Killer's storming 2006 album 'Swarm' I was keenly anticipating this release. Unfortunately it sucks. Unlike Swarm, none of the tracks on Sewers have any standout riffs or get stuck in your head. Quite a few of the riffs/song structures actually sound like sub par rehashes of tracks from Swarm.

The other main problem is the vocals. DM Vocals should be mixed so that they sit on top of the the music, not just merge into the band as they do here. Apart from the mix being off, the vocals also sound muddy and unclear.

If Swarm was a 5 star album, this one is 2 star.

Avoid."
Nothing new or innovative, but a good listen for Torture Kil

"When I first checked out this band years ago when "Swarm!" was released, I couldn't help but directly compare it to Six Feet Under. An Obituary/Six Feet Under tribute band now writing their own original stuff. But here's the catch, I found myself liking Torture Killer's material more than anything SFU's released since Maximum Violence.

Now for "Sewers". It stays pretty true to the groove-death metal idea, but just doesn't hit as hard as "Swarm!" did. Be that said, it's still a good listen for fans of Obituary and Six Feet Under. Tracks that stood out to me were "I Bathe In Their Blood", "Coffins", and "Rats Can Sense the Murder". The new singer overall did a good job. Not quite as raw sounding as Barnes, but then again, there IS only one Chris Barnes. Overall, I enjoyed the album and found myself banging my head quite often through my listening experience despite TK's lack of bringing anything really new to the table.
