"A couple of months ago I bought this trio's 'Being There' album and was hugely impressed: cerebral and edifying, a typical ECM offering. I find it difficult, then, to convey my level of dissapointment with 'Changing Places', which stikes me as the kind of jazz you might encounter on a late-night chat show, its dinner-jacketed purveyors grinning mawkishly into the camera. How did this ever find its way onto the ECM label, let alone create the unmerited excitement attributed to it? It's not often I chuck a CD in the bin, but that's precisely where this one went..."
