CD Reviews

WARNING!! Don't believe it!
Johan Andersson | Lund, Sweden | 04/10/2003
(1 out of 5 stars)

"This CD does NOT contain the 10 songs that [are listed]!!
Rather it contains the 8 songs you can see on the cover picture. For example, Country Road and Pressure Drop is NOT included. This is not the Funky Kingston album but a collection of songs from that album and some others. Buy the real Funky Kingston album instead!!"
NOT A RIPOFF
aj | Sunny Ca | 10/25/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is not a ripoff. Clearly Amazon has either attached the wrong editorial review to to this album, or they have simply not reviewed it at all. As one reviewer pointed out, this is not the 1975 Island album of the same name. This is a Trojan cd release of the original 1973 Jamaican album from Dragon. Its strengths are the title track and the classic "Pomps and Pride," as well as different versions of "Louie Louie," "Redemption Song," and "It Was Written Down" than you will hear elsewhere. This album is a must for true Maytals fans and collectors. If you're new to them, you should get the later version from Island records."

"This is by far one of the greatest reggae albums ever! If you like the Bob Marely box set and want something of like quality but of different style this is what will please you. Toots has some of the most upbeat music out there. Songs such as "54-46 was number", "pressure drop" and "pomp and pride" and numurous other toots classics will pump you up with positve vibes that it would be a shame to pass on this set."
