CD Reviews

1-1/2 stars -- The most aptly titled album ever
Anthony Rupert | Milwaukee, WI | 02/17/2008
(1 out of 5 stars)

"Too $hort has been in the game for over twenty years, and I had a lot of respect for him when he first arrived on the scene. But sometime during the early nineties his lyrics had been over-sexualized, and that in itself has an acquired taste. He also got into the habit of retiring and then coming back a year or two later with a new album anyway. But there's nothing too exciting about Get Off the Stage.

The surprising thing, however, is that only two songs are ENTIRELY about sex: "I Like It" (which made me say the opposite, although someone named Dolla Will drops a nice verse) and the disgusting "Pull Them Panties Down". Short Dog also fails when he responds to haters, whether it be other men ("F.Y.O.U."; the title track) or gold-digging women that he wants to bang anyway ("Broke Bitch"). But the rest of the songs are pretty awful too. "Ishin' on `Em" makes no sense, the E-40 assisted "This My One" goes nowhere, and a bonus track from the Pack's EP, "Dum Ditty Dum", sounds just as bad now as it did the first time I heard it.

It's hard to believe that an album that's only 35 minutes in length could be this horrible. And I'm not surprised by all the raunchy lyrics, but the thing is, well, Too $hort is too old to still be making songs like that. If this is all he has left, then maybe he really NEEDS to get off the stage.

Get Off The Stage Short If You Are Not Droping A+ Albums

"I'm a serious Too Short Fan!!!! His last album was a B- Album, but this album has a low amount of songs on it. I think that about 3-are pretty good, but the rest are either okay or bad. I give this album a D+. Bring back the old school Too Short with that California Touch to it along with 3-verses to each song."
His last album on Jive...

"Relax guys...this is short dogs last album on jive. Its really not even a new album as there is only like 4 or 5 new songs...the rest are from other peoples albums or from too shorts mix tapes. His new label UP All Night will be his main label now. I think Jive will be just for distribution. Short dog is in the studio cookin up sum new ish so i'll wait to see what he brings then. No matter what though, Short Dog will always be a true west coast pioneer in rap!

Ciao!"
