CD Reviews

Brilliant Power Pop with More Bite Than The Others
George T. Geran | 07/29/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Tommy Keene never made it big. He could have. Listen to Kill Your Sons -- a Lou Reed cover. Or Places That Are Gone. Or My Mother Looked Like Marilyn Monroe. Its all Keene -- great guitar, great bandleader, great song writer, and true to himself for 30 years despite the on-going relative obscurity. Great compilation album of a great artist you probably don't know. But how would you be reading this if you didn't know? That's the problem, and the only problem with Keene's career."
Brilliant

"brilliant shiny power pop.

slick in places, rough edges in others, but always with the hooks.

tons of hooks.

fields of hooks as far as the ear can see.

and, damn, if this guy can't play a mean guitar when need be.

pick this up, then pick up the rest to fill in the gaps.

the guy has played with Robert Pollard, Jules Shear, and Paul Westerberg and you can hear the influences here.

you know those guys have all of Tommy Keene's stuff and that's mighty nice company to be in.

buy this now!"
NOW is the time to get into Tommy Keene!

"If for some reason you love great rock music, but you haven't gotten into this Wizard {singer, guitarist, songwriter}, then do it NOW. I already own everything by this guy. But being a fan you also get some of the not so great. Not because of Tommy Keene, who's always great, but mixing things like drums too loud can ruin whole albums. We wanna hear Tommy, not BIG Drums! But by getting this you'll be rewarded with the cream of the crop. I guarantee your life will be much better after getting into Tommy Keene. Doesn't everyone need that nowadays? I know I do."
