"Stunning! An album that can't fail to draw you in. Each song is its own and perfectly in place. Tom McRae's streaming vocals are alluring and seductive, they induce a sense of life and wrap around you, whilst piercing you with its sinster, haunting tones. I had only heard 'you cut her hair' and 'draw down the stars' when I bought this album, but was immediately impressed by 'end of the world news', 'bloodless', 'the boy with the bubblegun', and 'Sao paulo rain'.If anyone has found artists of a similar style please let me know! This is an album to be cherished."
Alluring Sadness

"McRae's vocal resemblance to James Blunt is remarkable. I've fooled a few people with his less familiar songs by spinning,'Goodbye My Lover' and succeeding it with McRae's epigymous debut. What McRae's disc possesses, however, are the very things that Blunt's eschews, and this is evidenced, really, at the outset with,'You Cut her Hair'. There is a deep, reflective aura to the production that invites you into his space. The lyrics and music have dynamic shading, varying from the nerve tingling despair, say of the opening track, to pumped up optimism, though McRae mostly dwells within miserabilism. This was the disc that I, belatedly, started to attend to McCrae. His affectionate warmth alerted me to an intelligence worth following. I can't admit that the following two releases capture the vulnerability that characterised this set. People of my vintage might be put in mind of little-known Canadian, Tony Kosinec's,1970s, 'Bad Girl Songs'."
