CD Reviews

I finally got it!

"I've been waiting to get my hands on this ever since I heard Jay-Z's Girls Girls Girls. This cd is all that. If you're looking for some smooth 70s soul, then don't pass this up. My favorites are "There's Nothing In This World That Can Stop Me From Loving You" (that's the song Jay sampled--it's awesome!), "Have A Nice Weekend Baby", the title track....the whole cd is great. It's so weird that nothing from this album charted though. Plus it was produced by The Maestro--Barry White. If you're thinking about getting this, don't hesitate. It's like that!!!!!!!!!"
A Lost Gem: I Love You More And More by Tom Brock

""1974's I Love You More And More by Tom Brock is a masterpiece," says the reviewer above and no words could be truer! "A Lost Gem" that seems to have been rediscovered via Hip Hop's heavily sampled material these days, specifically Jay-Z's smash hit, "Girls Girls Girls." But believe me, I think Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell said it best, Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing...baby! And indeed nothing is until you've heard this soul masterpiece.

Produced by the late great Barry White, this one soars, like the sexiest soul you have ever heard. Tom Brock, vocals are superior. Very smooth, think Johnny Bristol meets Cuba Gooding and takes lessons from Marvin Gaye in sex appeal! All of the classic period 1974-77 BarryWhite/Gene Page signatures are on this set. The late Page's strings sound better than ever.

The best cut is, no doubt, "Naked as the Day I Was Born." I'll never figure out why Barry gave this one away, go figure. It's way up there with the best of his great dance tunes, like "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up," "You See The Trouble With Me," and "Honey Please, Can't You See." There are also some signature Barry ballads, "Love We Share Is the Greatest of Them All" and "There's Nothing in This World That Can Stop Me from Loving You," to offer, and the closer, "If We Don't Make It, Nobody Can," could have been an out take from a White Gold period Love Unlimited Orchestra album.

Yes, 1974 was good year and Barry and Tom was at the top with this one. It's too bad little is known of this Los Angeles born crooner. I would love to see more of his stuff back in print. 5 stars and then some!"
