CD Reviews

Excellent from start to finish!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"For those new to Puente's work, I suggest you don't buy those boxed set reissues. Buy this CD first and then go from there. Although I own countless mambo CD's, this one always finds its way back into my CD player. This album delivers some of the best of Puente's Palladium-style mambo recordings. Of course, many of Puente's original classics are here ("Oye Como Va", "Ban Ban Quere") but the real gems are the fast and furious version of "Que Bueno Baila Usted" (the way it should be done), the sizzling "Salsa y Sabor" (re-released as "Flauta & Timbal on the "Dancemania '99 album release)and the red hot "Pa'lante". Also check out "Tito and Mongo on Timbales" showcasing Puente's enormous talent on timbales. On the other hand, the instrumental version of "Ran Kan Kan" is a little stale compared to versions released on other albums. But overall, this is a great album. I guarantee that there is no way to sit through this album! Enjoy!"
