"It's rare that I will purchase an album having heard not so much as a chorus of one track first, or, at the very least, without it having come highly recommended by a trustworthy source (ie someone who does NOT own anything by Meatloaf or the Backstreet Boys). Nonetheless, while shuffling through the miscellaneous "T" section at a local record store, when I came across the title "The Alcoholic Father of My Inner Child" I couldn't resist checking it out. Nearly five years later, having sold many CDs in the name of "eating this week", I am still happily listening to my original copy on a regular basis. Resting on a solid foundation of well written songs, static distortion, interwoven with orchestrated feedback and wrapped thoroughly in postgrunge-artschool-punk charm, Tina Age 13 delivers: particularly where so many others have failed. This band has soul. Sure, the singer might make choir teachers across the country cringe, and a subtitle for the album could easily be "A Study in Power Chords"...it doesn't matter. These boys have it. In the way that Nirvana had it. In the way that Sonic Youth still does. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find any trace of Tina Age 13's existence aside from my copy of their EP. It will have to suffice, and I'm sure that it will. It already has."
