The Human Place features ten original songs. In addition to Hill's luminous vocals and acoustic guitar, it features the roots-rock guitar work of fellow singer-songwriter Larry John McNally, whose own songs have been recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley, and Leni Stern; the soulful cello of Michelle Kinney, for many years a key component in the sound of Susan McKeown's Chanting House; bassist Doug Weiss, an habitué of New York's jazz scene who appears frequently with Brian Blade, Chris Potter and others; drummer George Javori, known for his work with alt-folk-rockers Katell Keineg and Shivaree. It also features the saxophone of Steve Gorn, one of the most highly respected wind players on the new music-world music scene, who has recorded with master percussionist Jack DeJohnette and is a featured player on the recent Paul Simon album ?You?re The One?.
