Synopsis

Album Description
After appearing in the early bands of Todd Rundgren (Woody's Truck Stop) and Daryl Hall (Gulliver), Tim Moore emerged as a leading songwriter in the 1970s, having had his material recorded by Art Garfunkel ("Second Avenue"), The Bay City Rollers ("Rock And Roll Love Letter"), Richie Havens, Etta James and Cher. These two albums were his first releases with a major record label. "Tim Moore is a pop maestro...[with] an exquisite understanding of pop structure and melody." (Joe Viglione, Allmusic.com)

CD Reviews

A LONG AWAITED BARGAIN

"Tim Moore was one of the talented singer/songwriter of the 70's but his works were only re-issued in CDs just in the recent few years. I was surprised to see this CD containing all songs from his first two albums. The song "Second Avenue" alone is worth a third of the price and there are many more well-written ballads to make up the rest of your investment. On this one, "For The Minute", "Lay Down A Line To Me", "Now I See", "Charmer", "Love Enough", "A Fool Like Me", "The Night We First Sailed Away" are all great songs. It's a really good bargain.

I hope to see more of his latter works being re-issued like this.

"This is a can't miss for fans of blue-eyed soul. Tim Moore, who was in the band Gulliver with Daryl Hall (later of Hall and Oates) is one of those rare singer-songwriters who plays every instrument, and often on his own recordings. These two albums contain some beautiful ballads, including two which became hits for the Bay City Rollers and Art Garfunkel. Garfunkel did a nice job with "Second Avenue," though Moore's is better. The Rollers had a hit with "Rock n Roll Loveletter," a rollicking and fun pop song. Moore's voice and lyrics are wonderful, but probably not unique enough or mainstream enough to make him the megastar he should have been. He's an unequalled songwriter, no matter how the market treated him. He did get some of the attention he deserved when his fifth album gained acclaim in Brazil. His love song "Yes" became intwined with a popular tela-novella and demand for Moore there was great. Late in his career as it came, it had to be a welcomed success for someone who wrote beautifully. His songs covered issues of life and death, fatherhood, aging, romantic breakups, and trying to be your best. As one of his songs states, "Your'e not pursuing what you want from life, OK I know nobody likes to fight. But just a gamble or a sacrifice might do." Maybe he was just a little to deep to become a star of the Hall and Oates or Huey Lewis ilk. Get this CD and find an undiscovered gem. It won't require a gamble or a sacrifice."

"I have both of these albums on vinyl and to get them together on a CD is a great deal!

I don't know how many times I've cruised Amazon looking for "Behind the Eyes" which is one of those defining albums of my youth. Hearing "Rock and Roll Lover Letter" and "Sweet Navel Lightning" (over and over and over) really lifts my mood.

Know what else? The sentiments and music have held up to the passing of 35 years. My teenage sons got into quite a few of the songs! Now if I could only find Adam Miller's "Westwind Circus"........"
