CD Reviews

Evolution of a band
J. Williams | Ga, USA | 11/11/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I wonder if the reason why I have no problem with the changes in musical direction of Throwdown is because I was not aware of them before Venom and Tears came out back in 2007. This new offering by the band sounds alot more mature and (although most will not agree with me) more original than would be expected. Dave is actually using clean vocals mixed in with the more aggressive style. I read a review of this cd the day it came out and the person mentioned comparisons from bands like Alice in Chains among others. I also hear similarities to other bands as well ( I hear some old Priest style singing in one of the songs) but anyone would be hard put to mention any band that does not sound like another out right now or before.

Venom and Tears is an album that will stay in regular rotation for the foreseeable future. I cannot count the number of times I have listened to that cd more than once all the way through (except for the voice mail track 13) over a long trip. I feel this way about Deathless too. I especially like This Continuum and The Blinding Light.

Being a guitar player I am learning riffs from some of the songs including Continuum already after only listening to it for a short time. This cd grooves and even though the other review I read mentioned this is a total departure from hardcore I must not know what the means exactly cause a couple of songs like Headed South and Black Vatican have moments that seem very hardcore to me.

All in all I find that Throwdown are creating music that they believe in and I for one plan to crank this one up as well."
Don't believe the negative, this is good

"It seems like their are some people bashing this album because the singer actually sings on a few songs instead of screaming. I think this is the band's best album. The production is excellent and all the songs are hard driving. There are a few songs on this album that I would say are outstanding- Continuim and Blinding light. If you like Pantera style metal, you will love this album."
