INTOXICATING VOCAL TOUR-DE-FORCE~BRAVO THELMA!!!
Bradly Briggs | TOLUCA LAKE, CALIFORNIA | 08/29/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Thelma Houston possesses one of the most glorious fiery voices ever and this sadly overlooked classic should have been a huge success but with no promotion this amazing work was only known and enjoyed by those of us who know that Thelma Houston is one of the greatest singers ever and this is one of her finest...get this fast if you love great singers who are at their peak!

Opening with the jamming "What He Has" which has a great mix of Thelma on fire with a rap by Trick, this one is off the track and is full of flowing yet complex rhythm changes and totally infectious..."You Can Float In My Boat" is dreamy quite storm romantic bliss while "Throw You Down" is a classic dance floor stomp with a wildly soulful Thelma vocal that is totally HOT and should have brought Thelma another Grammy Award but they must have been asleep again..."A Man Who Isn't Smooth" is jazzy and romantic and shows that Thelma sure can get to the core of the meaning of a song in her own brilliant and original way. Stiring strings with a great keyboard open a pulsating "High" which puts the listener on a natural high from a truly great musical experience that brilliantly continues with the wildly magnificent "Serious" that is a seriously great funky jammer that would have been a huge hit with any exposure at all...this tremendous work easily contains at least six or seven top ten hits and it must have blown everyone connected to this great project that this did not happen...I have enjoyed this wonderous collection since it was released and everyone who hears this lost masterpiece wants a copy so get yours while it is available...engrossing and unique make "Short Life" a great and wonderfully flowing listening experience as is the engaging "Got To Be Yourself" with a strong multi-tracked Thelma vocal hitting some wonderful gospel-like highs! "I Won't Forget" is another winner in a collection full of them and the mesmerizing closing "Out Of My Hands" is completely hypnotic with a grand flowing arrangement and of course another magical vocal from the incredible Thelma Houston...Bravo Thelma and ENCORE please...its been way too long!!!"
She has the voice

"Thelma still has it. She's got such a great big voice. This album is a rather modern dance album with very catchy tracks. It works out very well. And Thelma still looks so young. If you can catch her live: she's really good and looks like she's only 20 :)"
Thelma Is Cookin' Red Hot!!!

"Why in the wide, wide world this album never received more air play or recognition is beyond me!!! Produced by the great Richard Perry, diva Thelma Houston has never sounded better since "Don't Leave Me This Way". She truly scorches the tracks. If you love Thelma Houston, this CD is a must. Get your hands on it."
