Album Description
Sunbeam is delighted to announce the debut album from The Story, a duo comprising Martin Welham (long-lost leader of psych-folk legends Forest) and his son Tom. Tale Spin is a delightfully melodic and nuanced collection of psych-tinged acoustic pop, written and recorded in the depths of the English countryside, and sure to appeal to fans of acts such as Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and Espers as well as older names such as the Incredible String Band, COB and Vashti Bunyan. 11 tracks. 2006.

What a Story!!

"I've been hooked by The Story since getting this excellent album and can't stop playing it!

Its so hard to pick out favorite tracks as I LOVE all of them, there's no filler here. Great songwriting right the way through like the classic British 60's psychedelic pop bands (The Beatles, Zombies) but its mixed with a modern freshness of touch that seems so hard to find in the over produced sounds our ears have become accustomed to.

They are a father and son duo and one of the guys was in a 60's acid-folk band called Forest and it shows up in the lyrics of DOWN TO THE TREES and WINDMILLS. In fact the lyrics are great right the way through.

With no electric instruments the sound is awash with acoustic guitars and sublime harmony vocals and I find that the songs seem to get progressively deeper and darker as the album unfolds.

There's classic melodic pop with a hint of folk - ANYWAY and THE STORY - and even full on psychedelia with STRANGE WORLD. It culminates in an amazingly brilliant song called BETWEEN THE LINES and once the album ends I can't help but play the CD through again!

Most definately my favorite CD of the year so far and I am so pleased I found it! I'm sure you will be too!"
