Synopsis

Album Description
Anyone who has spent any amount of time immersing themselves in the roots music scene of Alberta since the seventies has likely run across the musical talents of both Ron Rault and Gary Koliger. The connections could have come about in any number of musical forms. Maybe it was hearing an Amos Garrett recording of Koliger tune on one of the public broadcasting outlets or perhaps the introduction to Rault's considerable talent was via The Powder Blues Band making an AM staple out of his song Jump Up in the eighties. Fans of live music have had ample opportunity to witness the two in any number of settings as well, from dance halls to folk clubs to festivals and concert halls. Koliger has impressively snapped or strummed the strings behind everyone from Roy Forbes, Ian Tyson, Colleen Peterson, Cindy Church and The Rovers and continues to be a first call session guitarist. Rault on the other hand has helped generate a lot of movement out on the dance floors of blues and R&B venues around the province since the sixties with groups like Willie and The Walkers, Pontiac and The Rault Brothers Band. The two veteran, accomplished musicians and longtime friends, have now combined their considerable talents under the banner of The New Old Boys and for a change put the spotlight on themselves instead of making significant contributions to the careers of other fine artists. Here at long last are the results of this musical union. PETER NORTH, Music Journalist
