CD Reviews

The Moon-Rays Blast Off!!!!!
Jim Miller | Phoenix, Az | 12/26/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As a long time fan of this great midwestern band I looked forward with great anticipation for this their third album. Following Thrills and Chills, and the Ghouls Go West was no easy feat but the Moon-Rays have done it again with another resoundingly spectacular tour de force of musical genius!!!! Indi bands everywhere should take a clue from these guys who don't fall into the common formula pop trap to try to get a hit. The Moon-Rays have succeded in making each album different in style and content but yet are able to retain the Moon-Rays identifiable signature sound on every recording. Sinister Surf is no exception, the sound is pure Moon-Rays yet strikingly different than their previous cd's. This one is a more polished smoother ride through the creepy, sinister surfing world that these guys love to live in. My favorite tunes on this disc are Mysterion, an incredibly suave trip into a Link Wray/Booker T inspired soundtrack to Ed Roths classic hot rod classic, and a CLEVER, funny, beatnik jazz take on Poe's poem "The Raven"...pure genius!!! 5 BIG stars!"
