Synopsis

Product Description
Ask the Planet is a musical celebration of nature s genius. A joyously written and produced recording of 18 songs where the music and lyrics are designed to connect children to nature, create a sense of awe for the environment and teach them about the concept of biomimicry. Biomimicry is a practice that studies nature s best ideas then imitates them to solve human problems. What better way to introduce children and their parents to the concept than to set it all to music. And that is exactly what The Biomimicry Institute has done. Performed by The Missoula Coyote Choir and some special friends including: Grammy® Award winning children s singer and storyteller Bill Harley; Grammy® Award winner Ani DiFranco; Amy Martin who wrote all the songs; Bruce Cockburn, Brandi Carlile, Laura Love, Bill Sims, Jr., Dar Williams, and Erin McKeown on vocals plus some of the best session musicians in the United States: Allison Miller (drummer Ani Di Franco), Adam Levy (guitar - Norah Jones), Todd Sickafoose (bass Ani DiFranco) and Julie Wolf (keyboard - Indigo Girls). Lyrics are included in the CD booklet with additional materials for parents and teachers available at AskThePlanetCD.org. In addition to its pure entertainment value, the CD will be used as an educational tool in both formal and informal educational settings. Curricula accompanying each song is also available on the website for teachers to download. The Biomimicry Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing and growing the global community of people learning from, emulating, and conserving life s genius to create a healthier and more sustainable planet. Biomimicry is based on the premise that nature has done everything human beings want to do, but without destroying the biosphere or mortgaging our future. It is studying a leaf to make a better solar cell or studying an electric eel to make a better battery. Janine Benyus, the founder of the Institute and author of the book Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired By Nature was recently named one of Time Magazine s environmental heroes.
