CD Reviews

OOP's , They Did It Again ...

"Understand , anyone whose into the HipHop "thang" ain't gonna get these guys . "Everbody Rise" (like "Rock Star God" released in 2000) is made in the CLASSIC ROCK tradition ... But , Classic Rock means different things to different people . These boys aren't Blues Revivalists (like Led Zep and the like) ... much more akin to 70's era Alice Cooper (take your pick) or Mott The Hoople's "All The Young Dudes" ... Now , before you go and make the obligatory track by track comparison to these references , the point I'm trying to make here is the "attitude" ... that is , the "motivation" and the "presentation" . This is a CONSCIOUS effort ... a "classic" album (of ANY era) considers it's "audience" ... tries to include a lil' somethin' for everyone . The trick is to dabble in the music "ocean" (not the music "stream") ... but do so without "catering" to your audience . If you wanna try something "slow" , you do so because it "works" (it stands on it's own) ... NOT because you're trying to appeal to a new audience . This albums WORKS for me . It's not a sell-out ... it's not a half baked effort (filled with "padding" around a few valid numbers) ... On the contrary , this is a SOLID piece of work ... a good ROCK AND ROLL album . Truth be told , this release really ranks about a hair past 4 ... you wanna go for 5 ... then pick up "Rock Star God". But for now , this should do ya ..."
The Makers have Risen to new heights!!!

"This is what it's all about, folks! True, pure rock and roll at it's finest - and no one can do that better than The Makers. From start to finish, this album is rocks. Their new drummer is one of the best I've ever heard, and with two guitar players - the band sounds tighter and more fierce than ever! It starts off with a huge bang with Matter of Degrees - a song with a guitar riff and vocal anthem that'll draw you in and keep you. The title track - Everybody Rise! has got a great soulful groove that just keeps growing on you. Mix in some great pop songs, some really beautiful ballads, and super cool rockers, and you've got the best record of 2005! This album will satisfy both new fans and old fans alike, so don't be shy - order it!"
