Synopsis

Album Description
Recorded during sessions for The Jigsaw Seen's forthcoming album, "What About Christmas?" is destined to become a holiday classic. The title track of the band's new 5 song EP is a dynamic song featuring soaring mellotron strings, a Spectorian percussion arrangement and guitars both heavy and delicate. Drawing from a live performance captured at Luna Park in Los Angeles, three live tracks are next. Featuring a plaintive vocal performance by Dennis Davison, "First of May," originally recorded by the Bee Gees, ties in lyrically with the EP's title track. The song segues into the Velvet Underground's "Jesus," featuring some intricate guitar and bass interplay by Jonathan Lea and David Nolte. The band closes the live portion with their rousing rendition of the Ventures' arrangement of "Sleigh Ride", showcasing the thunderous drums of Teddy Freese. The live material has a vibe similar to that of the VU's legendary 'Live at Max's Kansas City'. The final track is an acoustic work-up of "What About Christmas?" featuring glockenspiel and "Dandelion" style acoustic 12-string that is stunning in it's stark beauty. The new studio recordings have been meticulously mixed by Nick Walusko, known for his work with Brian Wilson and the Wondermints. What About Christmas? features a sleeve designed by bandmembers Jonathan Lea (best packaging Grammy nominee for The Jigsaw Seen's album Zenith) and David Nolte. In the past year The Jigsaw Seen's legendary track "My Name Is Tom" has been featured on Rhino's critically acclaimed box set 'Children Of Nuggets' and Apple iTunes' popular 'Essential Garage' compilation. Guitarist Jonathan Lea also appears on Dave Davies' (the Kinks) current release 'Transformation' and Ann Magnuson's forthcoming album 'Pretty Songs and Ugly Stories'. With What About Christmas? the band has managed to transcend the holiday song genre. "Jingle Bell Rock" it is not! Give a listen, and you'll discover another melancholy masterwork from The Jigsaw Seen.
