World's Greatest Unknown Band
thedevilscoachman | Vienna, Virginia | 07/21/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well, maybe I'm being a little hyperbolic; and maybe I don't know the world's greatest unknown band - maybe that's the point - but the Green Pajamas are great. Very psychedelic, very mid-60's pop, but with a lot of modern sensibility and that '80's indie sensibility. Best of all, the songwriting is flat-out excellent throughout. Check out my favorite "Kim the Waitress" - a dead-on perfect pop song about an unrequited crush and that girl you can't forget, backed by an equally haunting bass line. After that try "Peppermint Stick"; "My Photographs" - heartbreakingly beautiful; and "Streets of London." A couple of songs don't live up to this level, but everything is eminently listenable and the best of it is great stuff. If you're like me, you'll be happy to be listening to it, and maybe a little sad that you hadn't heard it sooner! Highly recommended."
