Synopsis

Album Description
Once Upon A Time there was a Granary on a little prairie farm. It was lonely. Grain was not stored in it anymore. Then someone needed a place to live so they made a home out of it. A pot-bellied wood stove for heat, electricity for lights, water for cooking and a tub all were installed. There was no room for a potty so they made an out-house. The GRANARY was happy. It became the home of Good Grains Music and The Granary Girls Folk Duo, Patty Kakac and Jodi Ritter.(Literally, the granary is Patty's summer kitchen on Patty's farm and Jodi lived there for a winter) The Granary Girls, began when two talented women joined forces at a coffee house in West Central rural Minnesota in February of 1999. At Good Grains Music,The Granary Girls create and produce their own music, as well as perform throughout the upper Mid West for concerts, folk festivals, house concerts, conferences, childrens programs and school residencies. There's more info on the Granary Girls web page!

CD Reviews

Sowing Seeds (Granary Girls) ... YES!
Janet M. Baker | Alexandria, Minnesota USA | 08/09/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've had the opportunity to watch and appreciate the talents of Patty and Jodi over the past several years... along with the many other talents on the album... and I can honestly tell you from what I know that you won't be disappointed with this investment. The opening track of Briar and the Rose just haunts and the variety in the tunes is delightful. There's fun and seriousness here, stories and messages are shared. This duo is so real, without pretense and so much of the nonsense that I see in popular music now. It is a sincere work, with substance and forthright clarity that makes it all come together to form a downright decent listen. The fans were elated when the cd was finally released... and should you ever find yourself in the heartland, you'd not be sorry to find yourself seated in some cozy venue, enjoying the live performance these two and their friends put on. The songs change, the stories come forth, the experiences brought to light... the voices rise into harmony that is intense and sweet. Give this cd a spin... you'll laugh and cry and come to know the Granary Girls a bit more. A worthwhile time and experience, for sure."
