Synopsis

Album Description
Nearly all of the songs on "Ho! For the Kansas Plains" could have been heard on the vast plains of Kansas Territory from 1854-1861. The Free Staters strive to be as accurate as possible in recreating that sound, and only play original period instruments or reproductions of those instruments. You'll hear a fiddle with nylong strings, a fretless minstrel banjo with cat gut strings and bones made from the ribs of a buffalo. These songs are timeless, and most folks will recognize many of them, having heard them in music class many years ago. We hope you enjoy!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you are a fan of the American Musical Traditon this is a very nice compilation of mid-19th century popular music that would have been current among the pioneers pushing West...played with gusto and enthusiasm...a nice Cd and well worth the price"
