Synopsis

Album Description
? Saint The Fire Show is the third release from Chicago's The Fire Show. ? Saint The Fire Show documents the band's progression from the high-contrast art punk of their first two releases to a truly unclassifiable hybrid of Birthday Party/PiL post-punk, Korean pansori folk forms, startling prog-inspired harmonic interplay, Tricky-esque textured beat interludes, forlorn ballads of raw-nerved heartbreak and funereal New Orleans horn dirges. ? The Fire Show massages these elements into a vital expression of passion - passion for music; passion for engagement with internal and external forces. ? For this album The Fire Show consists of mainstays Olias Nil and M. Resplendent (both formerly of Number One Cup), bassist Pyx Klos (Mansion) and a rotating cast of drummers including Ben Massarella and Joe Adamik (Califone), Eric Roth (the Eric Roth Trio, original Fire Show drummer), Brian Deck (Red Red Meat) and Aliana Kabala (We Ragazzi). Other guests: trombonist Jeb Bishop, violinist Arnie Roth, cellist Drew Morgan and percussionist Brett Deitz. ? Saint The Fire Show comes as an enhanced cd which contains more than ten minutes of amazing video shot by Mike Zandlo. On it you will find rehearsal space footage, interview clips and scenes of the band writing for the new album. The main focus of the video is a pair of live performances. These performances represent the other side of The Fire Show - the cathartic, frenetic, improvisational mayhem that can't be captured on record. The video will give you a very good idea of what to expect from The Fire Show live.

CD Reviews

It took a ridiculously long time tro grow on me...

"... And now I can't stop listening to it.
This music has some really admirable virtues not found in many of our best albums today. Its exploratory but listenable, dissonant and yet oddly tuneful, focussed but dynamic. There's no doubt this music requires patience, but given that, there are enough gorgeous moments to make it well worth the time you invest. It would make my short list for best albums of the last 3 years. Very highly recommended."
Bloody Awesome

"Saint The Fire Show is destined to go down as an overlooked classic, partially because the Fire Show split at the height of their output and also because Saint... is relatively difficult to find. But those willing to seek it out will be rewarded with a hard-to-define, but all-around brilliant platter of manipulated, reformated post-punk. Perhaps the most striking aspect of the Fire Show's sound is its use of electronics and odd production techniques that completely revamp, ruin, and redefine the songs that lie underneath. The only obvious comparison would be what the Liars are doing now, only more accessible and perhaps more successful. Overall, there's never a dull moment on Saint The Fire Show, and those jaded by the ubundance of rather redundant rock music pouring out as of late should latch on to this with magnetic force."
